上世纪80年代的中国，改革开放刚刚起步，民风依然保守古朴。在老北京城的小庄西里，居住着一个颇有些惹眼的女子。她名叫江路，是市杂技团的化妆师，她穿着入时，开朗随和，却时常遭到周围人的误解，至今仍是单身。偶然的机缘，她结识了同在一个小区的宋宇生。这是一个年过四十的单身父亲，妻子早年去世，他独自抚养一双儿女宋征和宋隽。由于一心扑在摄影事业上，以致他从未再展开另一段爱情。小卖部的相遇让这两个大龄男女闭锁的心门同时开启，但是他们却不约而同受到来自双方家庭的压力，幸福的道路上充满坎坷……。Gilbert Gonzalez (Adrian Martinez), feels isolated from the world.
